How to Play 3 Clues

Receive Three Clues:

At the beginning of each round, you are presented with three clue words.

Example Clues: Ring, Journey, Middle Earth

Deduce the Connection:

Your task is to think of if it's a who, what or where. The answer will be one or multiple words. The answer is associated with all three clues.

Think about how the clues are related and what they have in common.

In this example, the answer is "Lord of the Rings":

  • Ring refers to the central object of the story.
  • Journey is a key part of the plot, as the characters embark on an epic quest.
  • Middle Earth is the setting where the story takes place.

Make Your Guess:

You have a maximum of five attempts to guess the correct answer.

After each guess, you'll receive feedback on whether your guess is correct or not.

Hints and Revealing the Category:

If you are stuck, you have two options to help guide your guesses:

  • Use a Hint: You can request a hint that provides additional information about the answer, such as a key detail or context. For example, "A story of a journey to destroy a powerful ring" for the example clues.
  • Reveal the Category: If you are unsure, you can reveal the category the answer belongs to. In this example, the category is "Literature."

Note that both using a hint and revealing the category will subtract points from your final score.

Feedback and Attempts:

Correct Guess: If your guess is correct, you win the round.

Incorrect Guess: If your guess is incorrect, you are informed, and you can try again until you run out of attempts.

Game Over Conditions:

Win: Guess the correct answer within five attempts.

Lose: Fail to guess the answer after five attempts. The correct answer is then revealed.

Scoring:

The maximum points you can earn in a round is 50 points.

  • Each additional guess subtracts 10 points.
  • Using a hint subtracts 5 points.
  • Revealing the category subtracts 5 points.

The minimum score you can achieve is 5 points.
